Liberalism as a political philosophy owes its values to the ideas of Enlightenment and the ideas of ancient Greece and Rome. Its main concern is to protect and enhance the liberty of individuals. Individualism forms the core essence of liberalism wherein individuals are held to be superior to the collectivity. Liberalism places an unflinching faith in the idea of human rationality and believes that through reasoning, individuals can make wise judgments and resolve disputes by means of negotiation.
